Hey everyone!
I’m Samantha and I’m from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I’m a Gemini and currently a sophomore at UCF. My major is Biology, and I have a minor in women’s studies. I’m really interested in women’s health, and with my degree in Biology I hope to become an ob/GYN or Neonatologist. I’ve always loved to read and write, but the writing I dislike the most would be dry explanatory essays, because I feel like my writing is never good enough, or strong enough, or interesting enough. I really like writing for my own personal pleasure whether it’s a poem, a story, or a journal entry. In my personal writing I feel I can express myself honestly and coherently without trying to sound like I’m selling myself by filling my writing with jargon that does nothing for my writing.
Through women's studies, I want to learn more about the women's movement for equality. I was always called a “feminist” in high school, but I never knew the true meaning of the word. I feel being in this class will enable me to learn more about the feminist movement, and the great women that came before me. I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface as far as my knowledge of womens' studies, and I want to know so much more.
I find gender important in the terms of finding my significant other, and the person that possesses values that I want in a husband, but otherwise I don’t find gender important in day to day life. I think men and women can do the same things and that everybody should have the option to do and be everything they want to be in their lives.
I Hope everyone has a great semester!
Samantha
